Today is Women’s Day and on that note, I thought I’d share this. Women had a special role to play in the contacts with the spiritual life. They were responsible for magic rituals and sacrifices featured in the everyday life of the Vikings. Objects connected to magic have been found in the female graves. From the late Viking Age, sorceresses were called volur and had the power to see and change the future. Magic gave women a strong position in Viking society, which is reflected in the Norse myths.
