Spring is the time of year in the northwest for cleanup of winter’s weeds and decayed flowers. It’s also the time to prepare your soil for your vegetable or flower garden. Is your soil sandy or clay? Perhaps it’s time to add some minerals to your soil. Sprinkle in about 1/2-1 cup of calcium and mix it in with your compost and dirt. Wait about a week before planting vegetables to give some time for the soil to get healthy and the natural organisms that live in compost to do their job. You’ll enjoy the results of your produce later. Try bone meal around your roses and watch for the bigger blooms.
