The seaside mansion associated with the author, Nathaniel Hawthorne’s classic novel, The House of the Seven Gables was a residence for 240 years before it was opened to the public for viewing. It’s located in Salem, Massachusetts. Guided tours are available through the museum house, but there are beautiful waterfront gardens behind it also. Nathaniel Hawthorne was born on the second floor of the house in 1804 when it was located on Union Street. It was moved to the grounds in 1958.
